It is often said that the best camera is the camera you have with you. We all carry around in our pockets and handbags our phones. This competition is for any image type taken on a mobile phone. Images can be edited in phone or using any editing software. |

I have over 500 stranger pictures now, my talk is about the stories behind each stranger and how I photograph them. There are landscapes, steam trains, aircraft, sport and nature and like part 1 it starts in January and ends in December, they all have one thing in common, all taken in Derbyshire!’ |

A practical workshop with members invited to bring their camera and tripod, charged batteries, memory cards with plenty of space and lens cleaning clothes. Flash is not necessary. The session is designed to get members to ‘slow down’ when preparing to take a photo ( like the old days using film cameras!) then consider all the various things which need to be correct BEFORE taking an image. An interactive discussion will happen before participants start taking photos to arrive at a mutual understanding/agreement of the key things to consider when taking ALL photos! This session is not advocating no use of software, just minimal need. |

I first visited Berlin with the senior scouts in 1962 a year after ‘The Wall’ went up and after it came down. I was interested to visit some Eastern Block countries before they changed too much. Hungary, Romania and Czechoslovakia were attractive countries and Berlin has successfully combined its two halves. |

The continent of India boasts some 13,000 species of flowering plants and 65,000 species of fauna having been recorded, which includes 1,200 birds and 340 mammals. India is the only place in the world that can boast both lions and tigers, and despite the country being steeped in Tiger lore, the lion was the national animal until 1972. |

Panel of Four Competition. In this competition, members submit a panel of four images instead of a single photograph. The images may tell a story, explore a shared theme, or form a small project. It offers members the chance to think beyond choosing one standout image and create a set of four that work well together. That can be challenging, but it is also part of the fun. |

Inter-club competition with Ashby Camera Club. This competition pits our selected images against those entered by Ashby Camera Club. An independent judge will assess all the images from both clubs, and a winner will be announced at the end of the evening. Long time MPS member Chris Brown travelled to Cuba in 2024 and then Canada in 2025. Both trips were memorable in different ways. This presentation documents and contrasts those two trips in the scenery and experiences of both countries’. |

Speaker – Marlies Chell. |
A practical workshop with members invited to bring their camera and tripod, macro lens advisable. Flash not necessary, but feel free to use twin or ring flashes if you have them. A 60mm Canon macro lens will be available during the session. The evening will start with a short talk about settings and technique. There will be six work stations with stick insects and preying mantis. Participants will be invited to rotate around the six stations and once all have been covered new work stations will be set up. There will be the opportunity to photograph twenty different species of insects. Because of time constraints it is recommended there is no formal refreshment time but participants take a break when they feel it is appropriate. |
