Summer Updates

Nottingham Field Trip, Thursday 11th June

This is the opportunity to get some superb photographs around the very centre of Nottingham. We have been granted permission by the council to undertake photography throughout the public areas of the town centre. If you choose you should be able to bring your tripods along.  Here is the chance to get architectural pictures, townscapes along with street photography plus plenty of transport pictures. ( The trams ) Ian and Paul had a quick recce recently, and the opportunities are huge in such a small area.

Parking in Nottingham is fairly expensive, so it is suggested that we car pool at Melbourne, or go into Nottingham by the Tram, which run every 10- 15 minutes in the evening . ( Full details are at It is suggested that you go to the Phoenix Park Terminus, just off M1 Junction 26 , following the A610 into Nottm)  Alternatively you could park in the Fletcher Gate or Broad Marsh car parks in Nottingham.

The plan for the evening is :

Meet at Castle Square, Melbourne at 6:15pm or at the front of Nottingham Council House on Old Market Square (Slab Square) at 7:15pm. We should be returning back to Melbourne between 10:00 and 10:30 depending on the light.

The plan is to work through the Lace Market area initially which is about 5-7 minutes walk from the square and then back to the square later around 08:15pm to pick up the evening light in the square.

There are plenty of opportunities for refreshments throughout the area we are working.

Can you please contact Ian to let him know if you are planning to attend. He can be reached by email at

Contact numbers on the evening are: Ian on 07908 338592 or Paul on 07534 941950

This trip to the Peak District will allow members to concentrate on Landscape and nature photography, along with the opportunity for a practical lesson in Panoramic photography. The trip will initially go to Baslow Edge, above Calver and Baslow and then if time and light permits move onto either Arbor Low or Chatsworth House Park.

Suggest you bring clothing suitable for the walk in the dales, including strong footwear and waterproofs ) along with a your usual camera gear and a tripod if you have one.  The route taken will be less than 1.5 miles of level moorland.

The plan will be to car share from Castle Square at Melbourne, leaving around 18:00 to arrive at Curbar Gap National Trust Car Park at 7pm  ( Map Ref: SK 261 747. Being in a the middle of nowhere, it does not have a post code I am afraid)  These are the driving instructions from the National Trust

By car: From the M1 junction 29, follow the A617 to Chesterfield, then take the A619 to Baslow and turn north on the A623. Turn right at the Bridge Inn at Calver and then turn first right again through Curbar village. The car park is at the top of the hill

There is a heard of deer in the area, but you cannot always guarantee to encounter them, as they range over a very wide moorland area.
