Our Programme 2018 – 2019

We’ve an exciting and varied programme planned for the 2018/19 season. With a mix of practicals, competitions and guest speakers, plus a number of social events, there’s plenty to look forward to.

27th Oct Saturday                   Thomas Cook Memorial Hall WW1 Themed Competition to coincide with an exhibition at the Assembly Rooms and the Remembrance Walk which will take in all churches, cemetery chapel, Thomas Cook and Assembly Rooms. A3 Colour and monochrome prints covering a variety of subjects, the vast majority of which are new or have been produced within the last 12 months. 13th Dec 2018 Thursday               19.30 – 22.00     Thomas Cook Memorial Hall Through my viewfinder I will be presenting a wide selection of my photos from my early days to the present. These will be; Architecture, Travel, Environment, Portraits, Sports, and Street Photography also including many award winning photos. 3rd Jan 2019 Thursday               19.30 – 22.00     Thomas Cook Memorial Hall The full monty Predominantly wildlife and landscape photography, but also including drone, aviation, macro and architectural images, this talk aims to have something for everybody. It also includes videos taken with a DSLR and drone. You’ll hear the stories beghind the images, what I was hoping to achieve and how I wwent about it. Photography has struggled since its inception to be recognised as a fine art. To the uninitiated it has been deemed to be merely a reproductive medium in which the end product was clear. The input of the photographer as an artist was considered as simply a technician who “operated the medium” and, in that way, produced the photograph. With the advances made in Digital Imaging and manipulation –  can photographs now be construed as art? Jim Hartje
