Swarkstone Exhibition 21st – 22nd October

We are coming up to the final exhibition of the year.  This is the first time we have exhibited at Swarkestone Garden Centre and we are hoping  that this will be a great success..

To ensure things run smoothly I am asking the membership for some help.  If you can give an hour of your time on either the Saturday or Sunday that would be wonderful, plus we need some help with setting up on Friday afternoon and taking down on Sunday afternoon. We won’t need to have more than one or two people at any one time as there isn’t a Tombola to run.  We have some members selling merchandise who will be there for most of the weekend.

Please can you let me know if you are available to help. My email is

Welcome Night – Thursday 21st September

Tomorrow sees the start of the season for Melbourne Photographic Society. This event is set-up for those of you who may be interested in joining the society and to find out how to get more out of your Camera.  You will be able to find out what we do as a society, and get information on our programme and activities, and understand how it can help you develop.

We have set the evening up this year to be more accessible rather than a more formal introduction, and will allow you to talk with the members and understand what we are doing and see if this would suit you. We are a very friendly and informal bunch of photographers, who cover many of the different type of photography between us. You don’t have to be an expert photographer to attend, we can help you develop your skills and advance your skills, as many of us have done since joining. You don’t have to live in Melbourne either, its open to anyone who is interested in photography and wants to meeting with people with a similar interest.

The sessions around the room will cover

  • This Years Programme
  • Planned Trips & outings
  • The Society and Exhibitions
  • Competitions
  • ‘How to ‘ Sessions and Mentoring. Come with some ideas of what you would like to learn
  • A slideshow of last years competition entries

This evening also allows the current membership to catch on what they have been doing during the summer and to hear about the new programme for 2017 – 2018

There are no fees tomorrow night, and no pressure to join. We operate a try before you buy approach, and you can attend as a visitor with a small fee each week from next week onwards. If you choose to join you will be credited against the fees paid.

The session will start at 7:30 pm and will end around 09:15 – 09:30 pm followed by a wander to one of the local hostelries.

We look forward to seeing you there.

6th July 17, “How to do it session” Critique from field trips & Lens choice

Thomas Cook Memorial Hall 07:30 to 09:30

A chance to not only receive feedback on your images from the trips but also to see the work of other members.  Bring up to 5 pictures with you on a stick or send to Paul on Email as Jpeg attachments. Followed by a session on choosing lenses and applying them in the field. Great preparation for our trip to the Derby Velodrome, The Poppies and Lathkill Dale.

Prints for Melbourne Carnival – Saturday 8th July

We are coming up to the First exhibition of the year – The Melbourne Carnival on Saturday 8th July

A big thanks to everyone who has already volunteered to help during the day on Saturday. If anyone else can spend a couple of hours manning the exhibition during the afternoon, it would be greatly appreciated.

What we do need though is more prints to exhibit. You can bring them along to the Thomas Cook hall this Thursday evening, or to Harpurs after 21:00hrs, or even in the morning of the exhibition as we are setting up. It would help if you could email me before Thursday night, if you are intending to bring the prints on Saturday

Regards

Jennifer Zahorodnyj, Exhibition Secretary
