MPS Peak District Photographic Trip – Rescheduled

Due to the forecast inclement weather conditions in the Peak District over the coming few days, and the indications of probable further rain when our trip was due to take place on the 13th June, it is planned to reschedule the trip to the 27th June, in the hope that the weather will be better, and we will be less damp and muddy.

The plan is to visit the Hathersage area of Northern Derbyshire. Possible venues in this area include

  • Higger Tor
  • Carlswark
  • Burbage Brook and Edges
  • Carr Head Rocks
  • Stanage Edge
  • Lawrencefield Woods and Quarry

We will not manage them all, but there are many possibilities in the area to select from. You may remember some of these from the talk given by Stephen Elliot last year. https://www.stephenelliottphotography.co.uk/info.html

This is close to the Owler Moor area we visited several years ago, but far enough away not to be a repeat. Sunset is at 21:38

Propose that we meet at 6:15 pm at the car park at Upper Burbage Bridge ( Grid Reference SK 258 829 ) on the backroad  out of Hathersage towards Ringinglow.  I will send out more detail instructions to those attending on the weekend before the trip.

It might be best to car share if possible, given the distances from the Melbourne Area.  Please let me know if you are planning to attend to my email : Paulatockbrook@gmail.com  by the 22nd June please

MPS Meetup Thursday 30th May

Woodland and Sculpture Trail photography meetup

We will be meeting at Outwoods Woodland Car Park, Woodhouse Lane, Loughborough LE11 3YG on Thursday 30th May  at 7 pm (See attached map).

(Note there is a £1 parking charge, although there is also road parking)

Here you can have a go at woodland photography and photograph the Outwood sculpture trail

This is very dog/child friendly so you are welcome to bring them. The trail is about a mile long, but there are plenty of other paths in the location with good flower, tree shots and geology (Actually some of the oldest rock formations anywhere).

Access is very easy, just come off the M1 at Junction 23, follow the road the Loughborough, turn right at 1st Traffic lights, go about a 1/2 mile, straight over another set of traffic lights at the Priory pub and another 1/2 mile car park is on your left

At the end we can take a vote on whether to meet up at the local hostelry or Harpers, Melboune at ~9:30pm.

Contact details for anyone arriving later – 0798 6292047

Members Update, Late July 18

We are now entering that period of time, when many members start to take their holidays and for some the opportunity to get travelling with their camera, and to capture some different pictures. Have a great time, and I look forward to seeing some of this work in the coming months.  I have just a brief update on some of the events on the programme.

Peak District Heather 9th August.

The planned evening field trip has been cancelled. Apologies, the leader has picked up an injury, that makes walking on rough terrain somewhat of a  challenge. In addition the moors are tinder dry at present, we have all seen the news reports on the moorland fires. It will be back in next years summer programme.

Street Photography , Matlock Bath. Sunday 9th September

We are looking for a member to coordinate the event. The location is ideal for such activities, and the opportunities are enormous on a dry Sunday. If you have the time to arrange the logistics etc please let Paul or John Z know please.

Melbourne Art Festival, 14th to 16th September

The annual exhibition is being arranged this year by Tony Pedley, our exhibitions secretary. We are looking for members to provide prints for display and to assist on the evening of Friday 14th , with setting up the display, and during the weekend, on the stand, to welcome visitors. You don’t need to be there all of the time, but just for a time slot of 1 to 4 hours. If you are available to assist  please let Tony know.

Late Autumn Field Trip, Whitby November 23rd

Alan May is organising a weekend away in Whitby date November 23rd with 2 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal for £140.  The hotel rooms are filling up quite fast.  If you are interested in going could you please let Alan know by 17th August.  There are plenty of photographic opportunities in Whitby alone, that suit all genres of photography. Interested in going, then e-mail alan14may@gmail.com

 Website.

Some of you may have noticed the societies website was down for several days. There appears to have been an issue with the hosts configuration, that meant you were seeing a different website when trying to reach our website. This is now resolved. Thank you for the various members of the society who reported this, and assisted with the diagnosis of the fault.
