Members Update, Late July 18

We are now entering that period of time, when many members start to take their holidays and for some the opportunity to get travelling with their camera, and to capture some different pictures. Have a great time, and I look forward to seeing some of this work in the coming months.  I have just a brief update on some of the events on the programme.

Peak District Heather 9th August.

The planned evening field trip has been cancelled. Apologies, the leader has picked up an injury, that makes walking on rough terrain somewhat of a  challenge. In addition the moors are tinder dry at present, we have all seen the news reports on the moorland fires. It will be back in next years summer programme.

Street Photography , Matlock Bath. Sunday 9th September

We are looking for a member to coordinate the event. The location is ideal for such activities, and the opportunities are enormous on a dry Sunday. If you have the time to arrange the logistics etc please let Paul or John Z know please.

Melbourne Art Festival, 14th to 16th September

The annual exhibition is being arranged this year by Tony Pedley, our exhibitions secretary. We are looking for members to provide prints for display and to assist on the evening of Friday 14th , with setting up the display, and during the weekend, on the stand, to welcome visitors. You don’t need to be there all of the time, but just for a time slot of 1 to 4 hours. If you are available to assist  please let Tony know.

Late Autumn Field Trip, Whitby November 23rd

Alan May is organising a weekend away in Whitby date November 23rd with 2 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal for £140.  The hotel rooms are filling up quite fast.  If you are interested in going could you please let Alan know by 17th August.  There are plenty of photographic opportunities in Whitby alone, that suit all genres of photography. Interested in going, then e-mail alan14may@gmail.com

 Website.

Some of you may have noticed the societies website was down for several days. There appears to have been an issue with the hosts configuration, that meant you were seeing a different website when trying to reach our website. This is now resolved. Thank you for the various members of the society who reported this, and assisted with the diagnosis of the fault.

RIGA PHOTOGRAPHIC TRIP

From Ian Pettit

During March, over the past few years the Photographic Society has planned a few days on the continent of Europe.

This year we have enquired with the travel agent and they have provided details for a trip to Riga in Latvia.

Leave EMA on Monday 26th March 2018 at 07.20 hrs arriving in Riga at 12.05. Returning on Wednesday 28th March departing 22.30 arriving EMA 23.25.

They are offering us the Dodo Hotel (2nights) which is a 6 minute tram ride from the old town.

The price for flight and accommodation is £258.50 for single accommodation and £217 for shared accommodation. Insurance and transfers are not included.

I need to check a couple of things. 1 does the Hotel accommodation include breakfast, I believe it will. 2 If we fly with Ryanair, we need to understand the baggage arrangement as they are about to change. This could mean a small additional cost.  The price currently assumed carry on luggage only.

As with all these trips the price quoted is at the time of enquiry and can change. We will need to book as soon as possible to ensure the best price. I also assume we will need to pay in full at the time of booking as most operators these days require the balance to be paid 3 months before travelling.

Once we know the numbers interested I will proceed with booking. In the mean time I will keep members informed of any updates as they become available.

If you would like to join this trip PLEASE LET IAN P KNOW VIA EMAIL by next Thursday 11th January. This ensures we know of everyone interested and avoids me forgetting someone.
